Who We Help

Counsel for Lives and Assets That Span Borders

Calvary International Law works with clients whose wealth, families, or businesses reach beyond a single jurisdiction. Many are high-net-worth individuals with diverse holdings, from securities and operating companies to real estate, aircraft, and digital assets. Others are international families with members, property, and heirs in more than one country, or dual citizens navigating the overlapping tax and reporting obligations that come with more than one passport.

  • High-Net-Worth Individuals: Structuring for significant and diverse holdings, from securities and operating companies to real estate, aircraft, and digital assets.
  • International Families: Coordinated planning for families whose members, assets, and heirs live in more than one country.
  • Dual Citizens: Guidance on the overlapping tax and reporting obligations that come with holding more than one citizenship.
  • U.S. Citizens Living Abroad: Estate, tax, and compliance planning for Americans who remain subject to U.S. rules wherever they reside.
  • Foreign Nationals Moving to the United States: Planning that addresses existing assets and structures before U.S. tax residency begins.
  • Business Owners with International Operations: Entity formation, cross-border transactions, and succession planning for companies operating in multiple markets.
  • Real Estate Investors: Ownership structures for domestic and international property designed with liability, tax, and transfer considerations in mind.
  • Executives and Entrepreneurs: Planning around equity, liquidity events, and personal exposure for those building and leading companies.
  • Families with Foreign Assets or Beneficiaries: Estate and trust planning that accounts for heirs, accounts, and property located outside the United States.

We also advise U.S. citizens living abroad, who remain subject to American tax and estate rules wherever they reside, and foreign nationals moving to the United States who need to address existing assets and structures before U.S. tax residency begins. Business owners with international operations come to us for entity formation, cross-border transactions, and succession planning, while real estate investors, executives, and entrepreneurs look for ownership and liability structures suited to their growth and liquidity. Throughout our practice, we help families with foreign assets or beneficiaries build estate and trust plans that account for heirs, accounts, and property located outside the United States.

Cross-Border Planning

Planning Before Entering or Leaving the U.S. Tax System

The months before a move to or from the United States are often the most important window for planning. Decisions made before residency begins or ends can shape how income, assets, and estates are taxed for years afterward, which is why we encourage clients to engage us well before a move takes place.

For those arriving, pre-immigration planning involves reviewing foreign assets, trusts, and entities and, where appropriate, restructuring them before U.S. tax residency begins. Green card holders and prospective residents benefit from understanding how lawful permanent residence affects worldwide income taxation, reporting, and estate exposure, and our U.S. tax residency planning examines the green card and substantial presence tests, treaty positions, and timing to clarify when obligations start and end.

For those leaving, we guide U.S. citizens and long-term residents through expatriation, including the tax and reporting steps involved in renouncing citizenship or surrendering a green card. Part of that work is evaluating whether the covered expatriate rules apply and planning ahead to address any potential exit tax liability.

Ongoing cross-border compliance is equally important. We structure and review foreign trusts with U.S. grantors or beneficiaries, advise U.S. owners of foreign corporations on entity classification and controlled foreign corporation rules, and help clients meet their FBAR and FATCA reporting obligations, including addressing past filing gaps.
